Glasgow Rangers and a horizontal waterfall

Well, I didn't go to Wiggingarra Butt Butt yesterday afternoon, or Team Trivia with Nick or Decades Night with Diamond Duo Ana and Humberto. Instead, I went to bed early after dinner with the Chief Engineer ...again.

The guests at the table were a fascinating bunch. There was a mother and daughter and a husband and wife, all from America.

It was the husband's 87th birthday and he had a cake. He had the broadest Glasgow accent although he'd lived in the US for years. In the 50's he'd played for Glasgow Rangers as an amateur as he wanted to be a ship's engineer. Each game he played he was paid in cash which was secreted in his football boots.

The four: mum, daughter, husband and wife were travelling together. They'd meet on a previous cruise some years back when the mum's husband was still alive. They'd got on so well that when the husband died mum moved and bought a place next to the ex-Ranger's player and his wife.

Today 2nd August we visited Talbot Bay and the Horizontal Waterfalls which lie about 20 miles east of Cockatoo Island in the Buccaneer Archipelago (just love the place names). Horizontal Falls - Wikipedia

The whole area is magical and the waterfalls inflict, in me, a serious case of vertigo. In the Zodiacs you were tossed about by the cascading waters trying to escape through the gaps in the sandstone cliffs. The rock formations and the mangroves were magical although being buzzed by seaplanes and fast speedboats was distracting. All in all one of the best excursions of this trip.

The Bay
Ancient rock and people in a Zodiac
Distant hills, sand bar and Cyclone Creek
fascinating layered sandstone
ditto with mangroves
distant ship

This evening I'm dining with the ship's doctor and other, no doubt, fascinating guests...and tomorrow is our last day at sea.
