How can they be so stupid!

Our new labour Gov't says there's a £20 billion funding gap inherited from the unloved Tory administration. They claim that came as a surprise, and they need to close that gap. How do they do that?

Well, to begin with you cut the £300 Winter Fuel Allowance for all pensioners except those receiving Pension Credit. Lots of pensioners like me can do without the £300 - losing it won't mean we have to go without heating or food if we're to keep warm. But many pensioners will miss that money. The Gov't own figures say that there are quite a few pensioners who don't claim the Pension Credit, even though they're entitled to it.

Lots of reasons why they don't. They don't know they can claim, they're put off by the extremely long form they need to complete. Some feel embarrassed /shamed if they had to claim the benefit. Also if you're income is £1 above the threshold you lose out on the £300.

All that was known to the Gov't. Yet to close 10% of the funding gap they've upset much of the population and landed themselves in a right mess.

Let's hope it's not a harsh winter, with hospital beds and mortuaries filling up with the victims of Labour's myopia.

This cut in benefit was announced in isolation - not part of a wider programme of tax and public expenditure measures to close the £20 bn hole. The suspicion is that Labour did this because pensioners in general do not support  them  - they vote Tory, so pissing them off won't lose many votes.

I was much more accommodating. I reasoned that Labour were out of power for so long they are unpractised in the art of politics and government. My friend, however, pointed out that Labour has an army of advisors and politicians who have been in the thick of Gov't and policy making - not least Sue Gray who headed up the Tory's No 10's office. What she doesn't know about the interface between policy and politics is not worth knowing - you'd have thought.

So why this cock up. I'm afraid to say it's because Labour is stupid, incompetent, myopic and possibly made up of "the entitled". In spite of their socialist creed, or maybe because of that, they think they know best. They're entitled to follow their creed and beliefs - not necessarily what's best for those they seek to govern.

How can Keir Starmer be so stupid! To accept lavish gifts from a Labour donor, and  his wife accepting expensive dresses and costly Taylor Swift concert tickets (they're entitled Socialist).

I know the Tory slogan "We're all in it together" rang hollow, but Labour's "I'm All Right Jack, screw the rest of  you" is not a good sounding replacement. 

Finally, at last Trump is being laughed at: not feared. This is the latest to make him look a dick.
