We won last night’s music quiz!

Our team, immersed in the music of the last 50 years, saw off all the competition. Out of a maximum of twenty-five points we scored twentyfour! Our win was down to a lovely Austrian woman who knew an 80’s German group and their song. We won a bottle of champagne – which split between six is a thimbleful each. But it’s the winning that matters.

This morning, we drew up alongside the quay at Killybegs. A major fishing town in Ireland which was once called Smellybegs because of the stink of rotting fish. After an early breakfast at 7:03 am! we clamouredon the coach to head for the Sliabh Liag Cliffs in West Donegal

The last part of the journey by coach is vertiginous – the extremely narrow road is inches from a drop of a one thousand plus feet, but our driver had done the journey a hundred times, so we had nothing to worry about….

Once at the viewing platform the vista was spectacular or would have been had the sea mist not comprehensively hidden the view. Even so it was gorgeous. None of us attempted to climb to the top of the cliff along a very narrow path that allowed only single file. The wind blew at times strong enough to lift you off into the Atlantic.

We have a professional photographer following our every move – they all do it on these up-market cruises and he had a drone filming us. We’ll see his efforts tonight.

We stopped off at the café/gift shop for coffee and scones and an opportunity to improve the local economy. There are loads of new homes and expensive cars here thanks to a

20-million-euro grant. As our guide pointed out in no uncertain terms Ireland and especially places like Killybegs have done well out of the EU.

Back to the SH Vega to put on some washing. It’s great we have a selfservice launderette. After that excitement it was lunch and a deep conversation with a Bostonian who seems to have travelled the world on the boat.

And tomorrow, we’re in Scotland and the land of Brexit, miles and sterling.
