The King over the Sea: Part 5

Iona was shut: to us at least. After a rough passage, many people complaining of things going bump in the night and being tossed about in their beds we arrived at Iona. The swell was such it was too risky to launch the Zodiacs, and after numerous attempts the captain abandoned any idea of landing and began a leisurely cruise around the island.

The weather was gorgeous and many hours were spent on deck surveying the sea, sky and island on the look out for wildlife. When we were passing Fingal’s cave, Mr Mendelssohn struck up to scare away the sea birds and make us wonder what idiot thought it a good idea to ruin a peaceful day with tinny classical music.

Even so it couldn’t ruin what was glorious view. Have you noticed that the stratification of the rocks there resembles a bar code? I have it on good authority that when you present an intergalactic senior rail card Fingal’s opens into a high speed worm hole.

The day ended with a magnificent sunset as our aquatic Starship headed at well less than warp speed to St Kilda  rising from the deep Atlantic west of the Outer Hebrides.

Sunset on our voyage across enchanted seas to St Kilda
