Sweets for my Sweet

Life goes on.  On Sunday our street was treated to a sprucing up.

After weeks of planning, Sunday 28th of March dawned with a frisson of expectation in the air. Milton Road was to be the scene of the Great Spring Clean. Never since the Allied Forces launched their D Day offensive has such strength of arms been assembled in one place.

The sullied ranks of amateur street cleaners, armed with brush, pan, litter bags and Flash rolled down Milton Road on an unstoppable tide of hygiene, tidiness and vim. The cry rang out “Out of our way Kim and Aggie – How Clean is Your Street!”

The hard working sweeps were fortified with bacon butties, scrumptious Danish pastries and melt in the mouth croissants, washed down with lashings of tea and coffee. Neighbours and residents were able to buy potted plants and other goodies from a temporary stall at No 24 – recalling the days when Milton Road had 2 corner shops and a couple of off licences to sate the thirst of its residents.

Each house was presented with a potted plant to liven up their garden and the front garden of an empty house used as a fly tip was spruced up.

After many strenuous hours, the valiant band of Milton Road residents adjourned to Ye Olde Rose and Crown, the local pub, to celebrate a job well done in the time honoured manner.

We all had a fun time, meeting our neighbours and promising to do something similar in the not too distant future.

All we need now is for the Council's contractors to do what they're paid to do and collect our rubbish!
